During the past three days researchers from Nunataryuk work packages 1, 3 and 6 along with colleagues from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funded PermaRisk project have participated in "ITCH 2019 - It's The Cryogrid Hackathon" outside of Potsdam, Germany, where users and programmers of the CryoGrid permafrost model gathered for an intense workshop of coding and programming.
Currently, the model is being used in many contexts, including modelling of permafrostat large spatial scales, subsidence due to permafrost thaw, thermokarst lakes, boreal forest, the effects of snow, the impact of infrastructure on permafrost and permafrost below the ocean.
This year's meeting focussed on driving model development to the next level, coordinating the various branches of model development, and publishing code online.
